Transmission Flush Service – Need to avoid Repairs

Automatic Transmission maintenance services are often neglected and vehicle owners seldom realize that this can lead to automatic transmission shifting problems and avoidable repairs or costly replacement.
Bulk of automatic transmission failures can be traced to overheating and transmission fluid contamination. An effective and complete transmission flush service can safely remove sludge and varnish deposits to extend the transmission life, revitalize seals and 0-rings and retain smooth shifting.
To take proper care of your transmission, it is imperative that you routinely perform a transmission flush service.
If you have an automatic transmission in your vehicle then make it a point to have the transmission fluid flushed at regular intervals to keep your vehicle roadworthy. There is a natural tendency on the part of vehicle owners to overlook transmission maintenance until problems arise.
Quite often, it becomes too late by then and you end up with expensive repairs. It is recommended to flush the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles or three years – whichever is earlier. However, check your owner’s manual for the proper maintenance schedule.
A transmission flush is a maintenance process where all of the fluid in a transmission is completely drained and new fluid (and sometimes with cleaning solutions added) is run through to flush out grime and sludge using a flushing machine, and thereafter it is filled up with new fluid.
A transmission flush is an essential maintenance procedure for your vehicle. A flush can help remove residue and materials from the engine, improving its performance and its lifespan.
Most auto repair shops want you to believe that you have to use their expensive machine to flush your automatic transmission fluid whereas it can be achieved with a few simple tools. In fact you can even perform transmission flush service on your own at home.
However, transmission flush done at a service center uses professional grade equipment to completely flush out all the transmission fluid from your vehicle. It removes all grime and contaminants. This process completely flushes out the used fluids out of your vehicle until they become clean and empty and then fills up the system with fresh fluid.
Mere change of fluid, on the other hand, just drains the fluid using natural gravitational forces. The entire fluid in the system does not get drained and contaminants remain – making the entire exercise pointless.
Please know that a professional transmission flush requires the use of specialized, government approved machines. There are a few differences in the way these machines perform. It is advisable that you discuss the type of machine and method used with your mechanic.
Yet another method adopted to flush a transmission is called pump inlet flush. This method attaches the machine’s exit line to your vehicle’s pump intake. The process transfers fluid through the vehicle and into a drainage pan, totally flushing the system. Once empty, the new fluid is supplied and retained your vehicle.
This process is somewhat time-consuming and may require a few extra quarts of fluid. Thus, this process would be costlier but it is reportedly a much fuller and more effective procedure.
Beware of some service centers that use machines that lend additional force to eject the fluid out of the system. This is not recommended as this can damage seals and/or lodge sludge in places in undesirable places.
